Responding to the 10:05 a.m. alarm, firefighters arrived at the St. Paul Road coffee farm to find a 400-square-foot one-room residence engulfed in flames, according to a Hawaii Fire Department press release. The person who lived there was not home at the time, and the American Red Cross was called in to assist.
Firefighters managed to get the fire under control within 20 minutes and declared it extinguished at 11:15 a.m. Officials said the structure and its contents were a total loss, except for the foundation.
